Hon'ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi's Live Interaction and Motivational address to Farmers telecasted

Krishi Vigyan Kendra , Samrala organized an interactive meet with the farmers, scientists and field functionaries to highlight the efforts by the government for Doubling Farmer's Income. Arrangements were made at the KVK campus to telecast the Prime minister Sh. Narendra Modi's addressal to the farmers of the nation through DD Kisan. The prime minister expressed his concern to double the farmers' income by 2022 and talked about various on-going policies and schemes by the government. Prime minister, Sh. Modi said that the main focus is on decreasing the cost of farm inputs, providing better rates for the farmers' produce and to minimize the losses involved in crop production. He appreciated the farmers' efforts to excel not only in the production of cereals but in other areas such as fruits, vegetables, fishery and milk etc also. He discussed efforts of government to enhance farmers' income. He encouraged farmers for opting "phasal bima yojana" so that risks in farming are decreased. He also motivated farmers about the use of soil health cards for judicious use of chemicals and fertilizers.

The Prime minister also talked to progressive farmers/farm women of different states and appreciated their efforts of adopting subsidiary occupations like fish farming, bee keeping, poultry farming, horticultural crops and use of Integrated farming systems and enhanced their income.

About 60 farmers/ farm women participated in this programme including village governors from different villages namely Sh. Hari Singh (Khatran), Sh. Ujjal Singh (Chehlan) and Sh. Budh Singh (Neelon Kalan).The village governors appreciated the work, approachability and linkages of KVK, Samrala for the farmers.

Dr. S.C. Sharma, Associate Director (Trg), KVK, Samrala suggested the farmers to adopt new technologies and recommended varieties for increasing farm income. He also apprised the farmers about maize variety PMH1 available at KVK for both demonstration and sale purpose.

Dr. M.K. Narang addressed the farmers about mechanical transplanting of paddy and told the farmers about the labour saving benefit of this practice. Later on, demonstration on mechanical transplanting was conducted at KVK farm for the participants.

Er. Karun Sharma requested the farmers to conserve natural resources and follow recommended practices of farming. Dr Harshneet Singh, advised the farmers to use fertilizers and chemicals judiciously and get their soil health cards prepared. Dr. Amarjeet Kaur encouraged the farm women to adopt subsidiary occupation for better livelihood, women empowerment and join FPOs for better marketing. A discussion session was also conducted for answering the queries of the participants.

At the end, Er. Karun Sharma proposed the vote of thanks to all the participants.
