Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samrala organised Parthenium Eradication Week (16-22 August 2016) in five adopted villages namely Bhagwanpura, Goslan, Garkhana, Powat and Diwala. During the campaign, farmers and farm women were informed about the adverse effects of congress grass or gajar booti (parthenium) which is one of the most obnoxious weed that can be eradicated with the use of weedicides & by up-rooting plants using gloves & masks.
Dr S.C. Sharma, Associate Director (Training), KVK apprised the gathering that parthenium is a harmful obnoxious weed causing skin allergy to human, its also health hazards to animals.
The KVK experts advised the farmers and farm women to eradicate parthenium from their fields as well as periphery. Literature on parthenium eradication in local language was also distributed among the participants on the occasion. Parthenium eradication week successful concluded with tree planting programme
