KVK, Samrala organized Awareness Camp for Mobilization of Students Under Crop Residue Management Project on 11-10-2018 at Government High School, Nagra

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samrala under the aegis of PAU Ludhiana is organizing various extension activities for creating awareness among the students and farming community to curb the practice of crop residue burning. In this context, Krishi Vigyan Kendra under the guidance of Dr. S.C. Sharma (Associate Director) organized a mobilization programme for students of Government High School, Nagra, on 11-10-2018. Around 150 students including farmers and farmwomen participated in this programme.

Dr. S.C.Sharma welcomed all the participants and highlighted the harmful effects of burning of crop residue. He also gave a call to the students for effective utilization of natural resources and efficient management of crop residue for sustainable agriculture and safeguarding the environment. Mobilization of school/ colleges students through different activities to made aware about pollution due to residue burning, its bad effects & PAU recommended CRM technologies for wider awareness among farming community and with appeal, No Residue Burn.

Mrs. Anjala Rani (Headmistress) encouraged the students to learn latest technologies, manage crop residue into soil, use fertilizers and insecticides judiciously for profit from farming.

Er. Karun Sharma , Assistant Professor (Agri. Engineering), KVK shared various technological options for in-situ crop residue management in detail and also informed the participants about the benefits of adopting crop residue management techniques.

Dr. Harshneet Singh, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) briefed the participants about the importance of incorporation of crop residue in the soil to improve soil health and fertility.

Dr. Shivani Rana (A.P. Home Science) informed that prabhat pheries, competitions, slogan writing at common places in villages, nukker nataks, demonstrations, trainings etc. have been conducted for creating awareness regarding crop residue management in various school and colleges throughout the district and emphasized on the importance of Kitchen gardening and use of straw in mushroom cultivation.

Mr. Parveen Bhatia, DDM, NABARD also graced this occasion. Vegetable and oil and pulse seeds kits were also distributed. The winners of slogan and essay writing competition were awarded with the prizes.

Programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Amarjeet Kaur and lead the students to take an oath not to burn crop residue.
